Adam
Adam: The Male Figure in Art is an illustrated book of 192 pages by the British art critic Edward Lucie-Smith, published by Rizzoli in 1998. It looks at how artists have depicted the male figure through art history, and Jack Fritscher is represented by one photograph, “American Man.”
Lucie-Smith also wrote Ars Erotica, another illustrated book that includes a Jack Fritscher photograph. Lucie-Smith was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1933 and is described as a writer, poet, art critic, curator, and broadcaster; his Sexuality in Western Art (1991) is a revised edition of Eroticism in Western Art (1972).
Jack Fritscher, PhD, is an author, photographer, and former editor-in-chief of Drummer magazine, which he edited from 1977 to 1979. His books include the novel Some Dance to Remember and the memoir Mapplethorpe: Assault with a Deadly Camera, and his photographs have appeared in a number of art books by others.
