Conceptually leveraged and inspired by Jack Fritscher’s cover and cover feature, “Gay Jock Sports,” which filled 10 pages in Drummer #20, January 1978: “Gay Sports: Why Should Straight Guys Have All the Fun? The Gay Sports Revival-Fun, Fucking, and Politics.” Developing Fritscher’s theme of homomasculinity, Brian Pronger’s images include Gay Games Physique Champion, Dan Dufort, in Gut Punchers Duo, a Jack Fritscher video for Palm Drive Video. Pronger’s cover art references Patricia Nell Warren’s The Front Runner.
