Tom Hinde (Thomas G. Hinde), artist, born in San Francisco and trained at the San Francisco Art Institute and St. Mary’s College, drew S&M lithographs sold through his own mail-order company, Denim Publications, and illustrated his own novel, Leather Boy, Leather Man, published under the pen name Robert Stewart. His work was exhibited at Los Angeles’s Eons Gallery in 1977 and at two solo shows at San Francisco’s Fey-Way Gallery (1978, 1979); Jack Fritscher cast Hinde as “the martyr” in his 1973 Super-8 film The Imitation of Art. Fritscher’s feature “Tom Hinde Portfolio: The Artist Speaks,” published in Drummer 16 (June 1977), is collected in Gay San Francisco: Eyewitness Drummer.
