Terry LeGrand (1939–2018), founder of Marathon Films, produced the 1975 leather classic Born to Raise Hell, directed by Roger Earl, which premiered in San Francisco after Los Angeles police blocked its screening. Terry and Roger were friends and collaborators for forty-four years, producing nearly thirty films together, including the 1988 Dungeons of Europe trilogy and the 1989 Bound for Europe series. Jack Fritscher’s memoir essay “Terry LeGrand: Once Upon a Time There Were No Gay Movies,” collected in Profiles in Gay Courage: Leatherfolk, Arts, and Ideas (2022), traces LeGrand’s life as producer, political activist, and founding president of the Gay Film Producers Association.
