Jack Fritscher’s Drummer Magazine Archives

Jack Fritscher served as the founding San Francisco editor of Drummer magazine — the legendary gay leather publication that shaped gay popular culture from the mid-1970s through 1999. Over more than two decades and 62 issues, Fritscher contributed features, fiction, photographs, and cultural criticism that defined the South-of-Market leather prose style and gave voice to a generation of masculine-identified gay men. This archive collects his complete body of work in Drummer, annotated with historical commentary, alongside eyewitness essays by editors, contributors, and intimates who lived this history alongside him.
